Chelsea took the very early advantage as Roberto Di Matteo received the ball and smashed it into the back of the net from over 25 yards out, which broke a 42 year record of fastest ever goal scored in an FA Cup final. Middlesbrough’s star striker, Fabrizio Ravanelli limped off after 21 minutes which was a major disappointment for Borough. Chelsea continued to dominate the first half and was unlucky not to be two goals to the good as another fantastic Di Matteo was well saved towards the end of the first half. With seven minutes of the match remaining another Chelsea striker flicked the ball over the Middlesbrough keeper to seal a fine 2-0 FA Cup final victory for Chelsea.
